Questions about chiropractic care

Plain answers to what patients ask us before booking.

What happens at a first visit?

Plan on 45 to 60 minutes. You talk with your chiropractor about your history and what you want from care, have an exam, and hear what the doctor found and what your options are. Treatment starts that day only if you agree.

Is chiropractic care safe? What are the risks?

Every kind of care has risks, and your chiropractor explains them before you decide. Soreness or stiffness for a day or two after an adjustment is common. Serious problems are rare but can happen, including a tear in an artery in the neck, which can lead to a stroke, and a worsening of a disc problem. Tell your doctor about your health history and about anything that changes after a visit. For a sudden severe headache or neck pain, dizziness, trouble speaking or seeing, or new weakness or numbness, call 911.

Will it hurt?

Most people feel pressure or a stretch, and some are sore for a day or two afterward. Tell your doctor at any point if something is uncomfortable. They will change what they are doing or stop.

How many visits will I need?

Your doctor sets a plan with you after the exam and reviews it at follow-up visits. We do not promise a number of visits or a result, and you can change or stop your plan whenever you choose.

Do you take my insurance?

We bill many PPO plans and some employer plans. What a plan pays for chiropractic care differs from plan to plan, so our front desk checks your benefits before your first visit and calls you with what they find. How fees work has the details.

What if I do not use insurance?

You have the right to a Good Faith Estimate. We give you a written estimate before your first visit and answer your questions about it. You pay at the visit, and we can give you an itemized receipt to send to your plan.

Do I need x-rays?

Not for most first visits. Your doctor orders an x-ray only when it is medically necessary, and explains why first. If you already have imaging, bring it or ask your other provider to send it.

Can I bring my child, or come while pregnant?

We see adults and teens. If you are pregnant, or you want to bring a child, call us first. A doctor will tell you what we do and do not offer, and may suggest you check with your physician or your child's pediatrician before you come.

What if I already see another provider?

Tell us. With your written permission we can share what we find with your physician or physical therapist, and we will tell you when something should go to them first.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please call us as early as you can to change or cancel a visit. Ask the front desk about the practice's cancellation policy.
